Report: Notre Dame taps Chip Long as OC

Notre Dame will hire Memphis offensive coordinator Chip Long for the same position, a source told Bruce Feldman of FOX Sports.

Long, who spent only one season with the Tigers, will reportedly receive a three-year contract from the Fighting Irish. He'll look to improve a unit in South Bend that was explosive at times, but inconsistent overall, even with standout DeShone Kizer leading the huddle at quarterback.

In his one year with Memphis, Long engineered the nation's 16th-ranked offense, which posted 39 points per game. He coached at Arizona State from 2012-15 prior to his arrival at Memphis.

Long was reportedly a candidate for coordinator jobs at several other Power 5 schools this offseason.
