SEC helping bring up the rear this bowl season

Jeremy Brevard-USA TODAY Sports / Reuters

If you've watched any bowl games this season, you have most likely seen the commercial where a person says "It just means more" down South in the SEC compared to anywhere else.

Claiming eight of the last 10 national titles, the SEC has been the envy of all college football conferences for the past decade. However, after the midway point of the bowl season, the SEC is looking up at a lot of its peers.

Teams from the SEC are 1-4. That's only one more bowl win than teams from the MAC, normally considered one of the weakest conferences at the FBS level.

Mississippi State had to block a last-second field goal against Miami (OH) of the MAC to eke out a 17-16 victory for the SEC's only win of bowl season thus far.

Conference Wins Losses
ACC 5 1
Sun Belt 4 1
Conference USA 4 3
Mountain West 3 3
Big 12 3 1
Big Ten 2 2
American 2 5
Pac-12 1 2
SEC 1 4
MAC 0 5

The SEC can still finish with a bowl record above .500, since the conference has at least seven more games. Alabama can potentially play two if the Crimson Tide win their semifinal playoff game against Washington.

Still, not many people pegged the mighty SEC to post just one win and four losses in its first five bowl games this season.
