Dede Westbrook grabs Biletnikoff Award

Mark D. Smith / USA TODAY Sports

Oklahoma's Dede Westbrook claimed the Biletnikoff Award on Thursday night, given to the best receiver in the nation.

Westbrook took the country by storm in 2016, hauling in 16 touchdowns and 1,465 yards for the Sooners. Those numbers seem even more impressive when you factor that Westbrook managed little production - and didn't find the end zone - in his first three games.

After that, though, Westbrook exploded for at least one touchdown in every game the rest of the way, including a stretch in October when he posted back-to-back three-touchdown games.

The senior also averaged nearly 20 yards per reception and totaled 74 catches overall.

Westbrook will be heading to New York on Saturday in hopes of adding some more hardware to his trophy case at the Heisman ceremony.
