Michigan's Butt claims Mackey Award as top TE

Michigan's Jake Butt was announced Wednesday as the winner of the Mackey Award, given annually to the country's top tight end.

Butt edged out O.J. Howard of Alabama and Clemson's Jordan Leggett for the award.

"It's a great honor first and foremost, especially for this team," Butt said through a Michigan news release. "One thing coach Harbaugh says, 'A rising tide raises all ships.' So it's great to win this award. I want to thank the guys in this group; this is our award, really it's not a one-man award. I really thank everyone on this team, this coaching staff, my position coach Jay Harbaugh, my family and everyone that's helped me achieve this great award. I'm really appreciative of that."

Butt hauled in 43 receptions for 518 yards and four touchdowns in his senior campaign, and was a reliable blocker in the running game.

The 6-foot-6, 250-pounder succeeds Hunter Henry, who won the award last year while playing at Arkansas.
