Todd Orlando, Major Applewhite to interview for Houston coaching job

Much has changed with the Houston football program in recent days.

Four of Tom Herman's coaches will reportedly join him at Texas, while defensive coordinator Todd Orlando will assume the interim head coach position with Houston for its bowl game.

Orlando said Tuesday he feels ready to become the full-time coach when the school makes a decision on Herman's replacement.

"I believe that I am at that point. The comfort level with the program itself," Orlando said at a presser.

"I've been around the game and been with some very successful people, so you get a chance to learn a lot."

Orlando confirmed that he, along with offensive coordinator Major Applewhite, have been extended interviews for the open position.

"I think it's important to not exclude Major in this process," Orlando added.

The interim coach also announced replacements for Houston's many outgoing coaches, which included the offensive line, defensive line, tight ends, and cornerbacks/special teams.

Craig Navier will take over special teams/cornerbacks, Roosevelt Maggit the defensive line, James Casey the tight ends, and C.J. Irvin the offensive line.
