Oklahoma, Texas Tech players reflect on record-shattering game

Jerome Miron / USA TODAY Sports

Oklahoma and Texas Tech put up massive numbers Saturday in the Sooners' 66-59 win, breaking school and FBS records along the way.

Sooners running back Joe Mixon registered 377 total yards and found the end zone five times against the Red Raiders, but credited others for his performance.

"Coach (Lincoln) Riley told me to put the team on my shoulders and I was basically feeding off our receivers and Baker (Mayfield). Our line did a hell of a job and I'm going to treat them to something this week," Mixon told Jessica Coody of SoonerSports.tv.

The sophomore became the first Sooners player to record 200 yards rushing and 100 yards receiving in one game, a feat that didn't get lost on Mixon.

"It means a lot, like I said, the coaches prepared us through the week," he added. "I'm blessed to be in that situation."

While Mixon's numbers are certainly impressive, Red Raiders quarterback Patrick Mahomes' stats were staggering. Mahomes completed 52-of-88, had 819 total yards, seven total touchdowns, but said he was unaware of his performance.

"Someone told me in the locker room. But, like I said, we didn't win the game so it really didn't matter," the junior said at his postgame press conference."I knew it was a lot. I didn't know it was that much."

The other quarterback in the game, Baker Mayfield threw for 545 yards, a school-record seven touchdowns and the two signal-callers talked briefly after the historic game.

"I talked to him a little bit. He said, 'Good job.' I told him he did a great job and good luck the rest of the way out. I mean, he's a great quarterback. And that's a really good football team," said Mahomes.
