Coaching Hot Seat Meter: Brian Kelly his own worst enemy at Notre Dame

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Every week, theScore's Coaching Hot Seat Meter will examine those in danger of losing their jobs in college football. Follow along each week to see which coaches are feeling the heat.

Rich Rodriguez - Arizona

It's probably time to start talking about how bad Arizona has been this year.

The Wildcats fell to 2-5 this season after getting blown out by USC on Saturday, but Rodriguez's crew has been free falling since 2015. Arizona lost four of its final games last season to limp into a bowl, after many felt heading into the campaign that Rodriguez and company could be a darkhorse to challenge for a playoff spot.

Now the Wildcats have lost four straight and seem to be throwing the towel in on the 2016 campaign.

Rodriguez has done an excellent job since joining the program, but if he can't get the team out of this tailspin, his tenure at Arizona could come to an abrupt end.

Brian Kelly - Notre Dame

If it's not one thing it's another for Brian Kelly and Notre Dame this season.

The Fighting Irish's abysmal defense has actually performed well over the past two games, but the offense has suddenly disappeared. Notre Dame hasn't topped 10 points in a game during this slide and couldn't match Stanford on Saturday when it was missing Christian McCaffrey.

Kelly isn't exactly handling things well, either. He benched DeShone Kizer for a brief period against the Cardinal in a close game, despite the fact that the quarterback, for the most part, has been one of the bright spots for the Irish this season. Then, he got into an altercation with a Stanford coach leaving the field.

Not a good look.

Charlie Strong - Texas

A win against lowly Iowa State won't be enough to cool Strong's seat right now.

The 56-year-old's job will likely be evaluated on a week-to-week basis at this point, and there are some tricky games for Texas coming up on the schedule. Both Baylor and West Virginia are currently undefeated, and the Longhorns will clash with each over the next month. If they lose both of those, a bowl game could be in real danger and Strong will need to at least reach the postseason to have any shot of saving his job.

The Longhorn players have expressed their desire for Strong to remain as coach, but if Texas can't make a real charge in the second half of the season, their wishes may fall on deaf ears.
