Harbaugh: Jabrill Peppers should win Heisman

Ed Mulholland-USA TODAY Sports

Michigan linebacker Jabrill Peppers was all over the field Saturday against Rutgers in a 78-0 victory.

The Wolverines remain the only program that's had a defensive player win the Heisman Trophy in Charles Woodson, and coach Jim Harbaugh believes they could repeat the feat with Peppers.

"If there's a better player in the country, I don't know who it is. I know there's a lot of great players out there, but this guy, to be able to coach a guy like Jabrill Peppers is a real joy. There's nothing he can't do. In my humble opinion, we're looking at a Heisman Trophy winner, or candidate," Harbaugh said postgame, according to Josh Newman of the Asbury Park Press.

Peppers, a native of New Jersey, scored two rushing touchdowns on offense and made two tackles on defense, all without seeing the field in the second half. When asked if he knew a player comparable to Peppers, Harbaugh took a while before coming up with Jim Thorpe.

"Maybe that's a good comparison! Just came to mind!" Harbaugh said, according to Nicole Auerbach of USA Today.
