Report: Blake Barnett to transfer from Alabama

Marvin Gentry-USA TODAY Sports

Blake Barnett opened the 2016 season as Alabama's starting quarterback, but just four weeks into the season, the highly touted pivot has decided to transfer, sources told Matt Zenitz of AL.com.

The 6-foot-5, 211-pound Barnett came to Alabama as the No. 1-ranked pocket-passing quarterback in the 2015 recruiting class. The five-star prospect redshirted in his freshman season before entering the 2016 opener against USC as the starter.

Barnett was pulled after just two series against the Trojans, with Jalen Hurts taking over and thriving in the role. The California native has seen action in three of the Crimson Tide's four games this season, throwing for 219 yards and two touchdowns.

With Barnett leaving, Cooper Bateman likely takes over as the backup quarterback behind Hurts going forward.
