Stoops cuts some Sooners off from media after 'basic defense' comment

Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops will prevent some Sooners players from speaking to the media.

The decision stems from the comments backup quarterback Austin Kendall made in the lead up to last Saturday's game with Ohio State, calling the Buckeyes' defense "basic" and claiming first-string QB Baker Mayfield would "light them up."

"Ridiculous comments. I don't know what he could have been watching, he must not have watched any tape if he had that to say," Stoops said of Kendall's remarks on Monday at his weekly press conference.

"And sadly, for you guys, because of that, there will be a whole bunch of guys not available anymore, because we can't trust them," the Sooners' head coach added.

Since Kendall is likely one of the players not speaking to media anymore, here's his voice one last time:

Mayfield completed 17-of-32 passes for 226 yards and threw two interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown. Oklahoma went just 5-of-12 in third-down situations and 0-for-3 on fourth down.
