UNLV's Kendal Keys out for season with torn meniscus

Jake Roth-US PRESSWIRE

UNLV wide receiver Kendal Keys is done for the season after undergoing surgery Friday for a torn meniscus, according to Todd Dewey of the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Keys, a returning starter, recorded 43 catches for 515 yards and six touchdowns last season, including three against Colorado State. The 6-foot-4 junior was expected to team up with Devonte Boyd to form one of the best receiving corps in the Mountain West.

"He’s a great player. You don’t have a lot of big 6-foot-4, 200-pound wide receivers. You miss him," coach Tony Sanchez told reporters. "Other guys are going to have to pick up the slack."

Brandon Presley is slated as the backup and is expected to fill Keys absence.

UNLV finished 3-9 last year and opens the 2016 season Sept. 1 against Jackson State.
