Mississippi State's Christian Roberson: May not redshirt in 2016

Roberson, a true freshman, may not end up redshirting due to a lack of depth at the tight end position, the Clarion-Ledger reports.

The issues cropped up after concussions ended senior Gus Walley's time with the Bulldogs. Presumptive starter Justin Johnson has just five catches for 41 yards and a touchdown in his brief career. He joins Roberson, Farrod Green and JUCO transfers Dontea Jones and Jordan Washington in a talented yet inexperienced and inconsistent group of tight ends. "Those guys have to get accelerated and get ready to get on the field," [head coach Dan] Mullen said.
