Mississippi State's Justin Johnson: Presumptive starter at tight end?
Johnson is the only tight end on the MSU roster to catch a pass in a collegiate game, the Clarion-Ledger reports.
Analysis:
The lack of depth at tight end cropped up after concussions ended the career of senior Gus Walley. Johnson has five catches for 41 yards and a touchdown in his brief career. He is the frontrunner for the starting job, but joins Farrod Green, Christian Roberson and JUCO transfers Dontea Jones and Jordan Washington in a talented yet inexperienced and inconsistent group of tight ends. "Those guys have to get accelerated and get ready to get on the field," [head coach Dan] Mullen said.
