UCLA's Mike Fafaul: Leading pack as backup to Rosen

Fafaul has taken most of the second-team reps in fall practice and appears to have a slight edge over true freshmen Devon Modster and Matt Lynch in the battle to serve as backup to starting quarterback Jake Rosen, the Los Angeles Daily News reports.

Analysis:

Though Fafaul, Modster and Lynch are all still officially vying for UCLA's No. 2 quarterback spot, it is the redshirt senior that appears to hold a slight edge over the pair of talented true freshmen. Fafaul has struggled with inconsistency in the past, but now, according to head coach Jim Mora, "seems more settled, more confident, more comfortable, more relaxed and better." Should he be able to hold off the two freshman - and, in particular, Modster, a four-star recruit out of Tesoro High School (CA) - fantasy owners with Rosen already on their roster could find value in stashing Fafaul, particularly in the instance that the former were to go down with an injury at some point during the upcoming season.
