Texas A&M suspends Josh Walker after arrest

Justin Ford-USA TODAY Sports

Texas A&M suspended linebacker Josh Walker, effective immediately, following an arrest Friday night.

The Brazos County sheriff's office confirmed the junior was charged with assault causing bodily injury to a family member and interfering with emergency requested for assistance, reports Brent Zwerneman of the Houston Chronicle.

According to the College Station Police Department, Walker pushed his girlfriend into a child's rocking chair, which caused bruising and a "pretty good knot on her hip." There was a child in the apartment where the incident took place, but he or she was not involved in the altercation.

A Texas A&M athletic spokesman said Walker has been suspended as per athletic department policy, although the length of the ban is undetermined.

Walker appeared in 11 games for the Aggies last season, including a season-opening start versus Arizona State. He was expected to compete for a starting position this season, but that could be in doubt after Friday's incident.

Texas A&M opens the season Sept. 3 against UCLA.
