Notre Dame's Devin Butler arrested for battery, resisting officer

Notre Dame senior cornerback Devin Butler was arrested early Saturday morning on preliminary charges of battery against a police officer and resisting an officer.

Police records show Butler was arrested at 12:28 a.m. at Linebacker Lounge, a popular bar near the school's campus.

"Any student arrested on a felony charge also faces dismissal from the university," Paul Browne, Notre Dame's vice president for public affairs and communications, said in a statement. "The university will determine if additional sanctions should apply to any or all of the students charged."

Butler, who's recovering from the broken foot he re-fractured before last season's Fiesta Bowl, is already expected to miss the first month of the season. If healthy, he would've been a strong candidate to start in the Irish secondary.

In three seasons at Notre Dame, Butler's posted 39 tackles, six pass breakups, and one interception. He's seen action in 37 games, starting three.
