Lloyd Carr steps down from CFP selection committee, citing health

Storied former Michigan coach Lloyd Carr resigned from the College Football Playoff selection committee Friday, citing health concerns.

"This is a difficult decision because I have enjoyed my preparations and I have the greatest respect for the other committee members and the playoff itself," Carr said in a news release. "I regret that health issues will prevent me from executing the responsibilities expected of a committee member."

Carr was set to begin his first year on the panel this season. He was named to the committee in January.

With the 71-year-old now out of the frame, twelve members will comprise this year's group. The committee doesn't unveil its first set of rankings until the beginning of November.

Carr is the third member in as many years to step down due to health issues. Former USC athletic director Pat Haden announced his departure in October, while Archie Manning resigned in 2014 before his tenure began.

Carr coached the Wolverines from 1995-2007, winning a national championship in 1997 and leading the program to a 122-40 record overall.
