Auburn's Jeremy Johnson: Held out of Saturday's scrimmage

Johnson was held out of Saturday's scrimmage, but head coach Gus Malzahn contends that the senior quarterback is healthy, Lauren Shute of the AJC's SEC Country blog reports.

Analysis:

According to Shute, Johnson stood on the sidelines Saturday so that the Auburn coaching staff could get a closer look at quarterbacks Sean White and John Franklin III. Auburn's quarterback race looks to be wide open, but the decision to hold Johnson out Saturday is enough to raise some eyebrows in regards to his place on the depth chart. Johnson failed to live up to lofty preseason expectations last season as he ultimately lost out on the starting job to Sean White for Auburn's bowl game.
