The case against Mississippi State recruit Jeffery Simmons seems to have come to an end.

The four-star defensive end pleaded no contest to a charge of simple assault Tuesday, according to Royce Swayze of The Clarion-Ledger. Simmons was also found guilty of malicious mischief related to a March 24 incident where he was caught on film punching a woman repeatedly.

The charge of disturbing the peace standing against Simmons was dismissed.

Mississippi State and head coach Dan Mullen were harshly criticized for accepting Simmons onto the football team amidst these charges. Mullen had previously stated that despite handing Simmons a one-game suspension, to be served in the 2016 season opener, that he was not a primary decision maker in the process.

Simmons will be ordered to pay $711 for medical bills, $175 in damages to the woman's car, and $475 in fines for both malicious mischief and simple assault charges.
