For all those out there who want to be known as being tough, Iowa State recruit Chase Allen just laid down the gauntlet.

The incoming tight end was struck by a car Thursday night outside of the Iowa State practice facility in Ames, Iowa, according to Rance Burger of the Springfield News-Leader.

Allen had the presence of mind and quickness to jump once he noticed the car approaching, causing him to shatter the windshield and receive 103 stitches in his back as a result.

"I was crossing the street and a car didn't see me but I had time to react and jump," Allen said.

Iowa State coaches took Allen to the E.R. after he pulled himself from the wreckage and simply walked away. Allen considers himself lucky for having such a quick reaction time.

"The coaches were there with me in the E.R., and I'll be cleared when the stitches heal up. (It) could have been so much worse," Allen said.

Allen caught 33 passes for 654 yards and seven touchdowns as a senior for Nixa high school out of Nixa, Mo. Allen is also the son of Terry Allen, who has served as head coach at Northern Iowa, Kansas, and Missouri State.
