Treon Harris to transfer from Florida

Tommy Gilligan / USA TODAY Sports

Florida announced Treon Harris is transferring out of the program Monday, just days after head coach Jim McElwain announced the junior would switch from quarterback to wide receiver.

After taking over for the suspended Will Grier in Week 7 of last season, Harris completed just 50 percent of his passes for 1,676 yards with nine touchdowns and six interceptions. After jumping out to a 6-0 record under Grier's watch, the Gators struggled with Harris taking the snaps, finishing 4-4.

Harris was suspended in January for undisclosed reasons, and as a result was absent for spring practices. In that time span, Florida added graduate transfer Austin Appleby as well as freshman Kyle Trask and Feleipe Franks to compete with Luke Del Rio for the quarterback position.

After McElwain made the news official that Harris would move to wide receiver, it appears the former four-star recruit wasn't interested in learning a new position.

As per NCAA transfer regulations, Harris will be forced to sit out the 2016 season before becoming eligible the following campaign.
