ATLANTA - Alabama athletic director Bill Battle says he has completed treatment for cancer.
Battle said Thursday in a statement released through the university that he expects to return to work soon on a limited basis.
He underwent a stem cell transplant for multiple myeloma at Emory University's Winship Cancer Institute on June 27. He was released from the hospital on July 8 and was cleared Wednesday to return home to Tuscaloosa after nearly two weeks of outpatient care while staying at his Marietta, Georgia home.
The 74-year-old Battle says the outcome of the treatment was ''extremely positive.''
He cited the support of wife Mary, a licensed oncology nurse, and ''the outpouring of thoughts and prayers from around the country.''
