5 programs that would love to - and could - land Jarrett Stidham

Scott Sewell-USA TODAY Sports

Jarrett Stidham sent shockwaves through the NCAA on Thursday when he announced his decision to transfer out of Baylor.

Stidham, a former No. 2 dual-threat QB recruit in the nation, won't be eligible to play at the FBS level this season, but with three years on the table afterward, will be sure to attract plenty of suitors. Among them could be the following five programs, all of which look like realistic landing spots for the sophomore, who supposedly plans on starting games as soon as he's eligible to do so:

Auburn

Perhaps no major program has rolled through quarterbacks over the last five years quite like Auburn. Since Cam Newton's championship season in 2010, the Tigers have employed seven different starting quarterbacks, and only Nick Marshall has started multiple games in multiple seasons. Auburn is set to enter 2016 with another undesirable group of QBs, and will be on track to continue that ugly trend for a while yet if they don't finally figure out the position.

Miami

Surely, Mark Richt would love to make a splash that instantly signals the return of Miami to national significance. Richt, who seems hellbent on invigorating the passing attack in Coral Gables, has Brad Kaaya to work with this year but a group of untested pivots awaiting once Kaaya makes his expected leap to the NFL. Not only would Stidham represent the splash fans of "The U" - if not the school itself - are looking for, but he would have three chances to lead the Hurricanes back up the mountain, something Miami backers have spent a really long time waiting for.

Oregon

Mark Helfrich needs a quarterback - like, really needs a quarterback. His success with fellow dual-threats Marcus Mariota and Vernon Adams has been documented, but those are now names of the past and Helfrich's struggles to develop recruits of his own have put Oregon in an uncertain position going forward. With a blueprint in hand for how to get the most out of his transfers, though, Helfrich could both tame his critics and return the Ducks to their not so distant glory days should he get his hands on a man with the talents and remaining eligibility of Stidham.

California

Sonny Dykes was saved by the bell when Davis Webb elected to spurn Colorado and transfer to Cal so late in the process, but he'd love to secure his next quarterback a little earlier this time. Webb was a necessary add for Dykes, who had no good-looking alternatives to replace the departed Jared Goff. However, he'll face the exact same predicament next season once Webb's eligibility is exhausted, unless he can convince someone like Stidham - who played in a similar offensive system at Baylor - to bring his talents to Berkeley.

Texas A&M

A program can never have too many good quarterbacks, especially when that program loses them as quickly as Texas A&M. The QB exodus from College Station is no secret, nor is the pressure mounting on Kevin Sumlin to turn in more wins than he has lately. Though the Aggies currently hold a commitment from prized 2017 recruit Kellen Mond, there's no guarantee the IMG Academy product will uphold it after he's seen several others at his position quit on the program in recent times. Stidham, by the way, hails from Stephenville, Texas, which is about a three-hour drive from College Station.
