After giving its head coach a vote of confidence, Auburn has amended Gus Malzahn's contract, retaining him through the 2020 season, according to Connor Smolensky of SEC Country.

Malzahn's contract was initially set to expire after the 2019 season, but the university made the decision to keep the head coach for one additional year.

Malzahn originally signed a six-year contract in December of 2013 that scheduled him to make $4.35 million in 2016 and $5.1 million in 2019, the final year of the deal. The amendment will give Malzahn an increase of $500,000 over the next two seasons, and a decrease of $500,000 in the 2018 and 2019 seasons.

Malzahn owns a career record of 27-13 as head coach of the TIgers as well as a BCS National Championship Game appearance in 2013 and a 31-10 victory over Memphis in the 2015 Birmingham bowl.
