Auburn's Roc Thomas to transfer

John David Mercer-USA TODAY Sports

Auburn lost some depth at running back Tuesday as the school announced Roc Thomas is leaving the program.

"Roc Thomas has asked for his release from Auburn and I have granted him his request," head coach Gus Malzahn said in a statement. "We wish him nothing but the best moving forward."

The 5-foot-10, 203-pound Thomas rushed for 261 yards on 43 carries in 2015, finding the end zone once on the ground, and once through the air. He was surpassed on the depth chart by both Peyton Barber and Jovon Robinson, and was being used as mostly a third-down back by season's end.

Thomas is rumored to be heading to Jacksonville State on his next stop, as the Gamecocks are led by his former high school coach John Grass. Jacksonville State almost knocked off Auburn at Jordan-Hare stadium last season, eventually falling in overtime.
