Alabama left tackle Cam Robinson was arrested early Tuesday morning on a felony weapons and misdemeanor drug charge, according to records from the Ouachita Correctional Center.

Defensive back Laurence Hootie Jones was also arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance, as well as illegally carrying a weapon in the presence of narcotics - both misdemeanors.

Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban released a brief statement shortly after the arrest.

"We are aware of the situation involving Hootie Jones and Cam Robinson and are in the process of gathering facts to determine what internal action needs to be taken," he said.

The pair were arrested in their hometown of West Monroe, La., after officers pulled up to Robinson's car and detected the aroma of marijuana around 2:33 a.m., according to AL.com's Michael Casagrande. Officers then saw a gun on the lap of the car's passenger, and upon search discovered a bag of marijuana and another handgun under the seat.

The second handgun is the most serious part of the incident, as it was found to be stolen and led to the felony charge placed against Robinson. He was also charged with possession of a controlled substance and illegally carrying a weapon in the presence of narcotics. A conviction on a charge of stolen weapon possession in Louisiana carries a sentence of between one and five years.

A potential No. 1 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, Robinson made an immediate impact starting at left tackle as a true freshman in 2014. He has started all 29 games during his two years at Alabama. The 6-foot-6, 327-pounder has been a fixture on the Crimson Tide offensive line ever since, and had NFL scouts drooling at the mouth, though this will clearly complicate matters.
