4-star WR Netherly decommits from Texas A&M after coach's apparent subtweet

Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

What appeared to be a subtweet from an assistant coach at Texas A&M may have cost the program four-star wide receiver Mannie Netherly.

Shortly after coveted quarterback Tate Martell revealed his decommitment from the Aggies on Wednesday night, Netherly announced he was doing the same.

"After tonight I see what kind of person my 'future coach' is and I myself don't wanna play for someone like that so without further ado I would like to announce that I am decommitting from Texas A&M," Netherly wrote on Twitter.

His post came after the Aggies' wide receivers coach seemed to respond to Martell's decision, which came minutes earlier:

Moorehead followed up his tweet a half-hour later, saying he wasn't referring to Martell and didn't know Martell had reopened his recruitment at that point, but the damage may have already been done.

Netherly is ranked by ESPN as the No. 24 wideout prospect in the nation, and the No. 181 overall recruit in the class. He has scholarship offers on the table from a number of programs, including Michigan State, Oklahoma, and Arkansas.
