Alabama to host The Citadel in 2018

John David Mercer-USA TODAY Sports

The reigning champions of the FCS's Southern Conference are on a collision course to meet the reigning champions of college football in a few years.

The Citadel announced Tuesday that it has agreed to play Alabama at the historic Bryant-Denny Stadium in November of the 2018 season.

"This is a fantastic opportunity for our program," Bulldogs head coach Brent Thompson said. "These games are important for many reasons, and they allow us to provide our cadet-athletes with once-in-a-lifetime experiences. I'm excited that our team will have the experience of playing in front of more than 100,000 fans against one of the premier teams in college football."

The Citadel defeated fellow SEC team South Carolina in 2015, but knocking Alabama off its throne in a few years may prove a bit more challenging.
