Kizer outshines Zaire in Notre Dame spring game

Ever since DeShone Kizer threw the game-winning touchdown against Virginia last year, the debate was on. Who would start at quarterback for Notre Dame next season?

Kizer looked solid in Notre Dame's spring game Saturday, completing 10-of-17 for 113 yards. Malik Zaire, however, wasn't as consistent connecting on only 6-of-15 for 120 yards, though he did add a rushing TD.

While the season is still four months away, head coach Brian Kelly realizes a decision needs to be made sooner rather than later.

"I think I'm going to have to make a judgment call, I don't know when I'll make it. But there will be a time when I'm going to have to say, 'That's our quarterback. Let's go with him. We're all in, and let's move forward.' They are both that good. I already know that.''

Zaire began last season as the starter until he broke his ankle against Virginia - in just the second game of the year for Notre Dame.

Kizer threw for 21 touchdowns and 2,884 yards, leading the Irish to a 10-3 record.
