NCAA Game Summary - NC State at South Florida

Tampa, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Jacoby Brissett hit on 20-of-29 pass attempts for 266 yards and two touchdowns to lift the NC State Wolf Pack to a 49-17 victory over the South Florida Bulls in a non-conference tilt at Raymond James Stadium.

Bra'Lon Cherry rushed for two scores and hauled in a touchdown reception for NC State (3-0) as it won its third game in a row to begin the 2014 campaign. Shadrach Thornton paced the Wolf Pack on the ground with 70 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries, while Bo Hines tallied 63 receiving yards on three catches. Thomas Teal anchored NC State's defensive unit with six total tackles, one tack, two stops behind the line of scrimmage and a forced fumble.

For the Bulls (1-2), Mike White completed only 4-of-16 passes for 82 yards, 75 of which came on his only touchdown pass to Ryeshene Bronson. Marlon Mack paced USF's rushing attack with 51 yards on 12 attempts.

The Wolf Pack struck first as Cherry rushed 17 yards for a touchdown to give them a 7-0 lead at the 9:20 mark of the opening period. USF wasted no time responding as White connected with Bronson on a 75-yard touchdown pass on the first play of the next drive.

NC State took a lasting lead at the 1:32 mark of the first quarter, as Brissett completed a 17-yard touchdown pass to Cherry that gave the visitors a 14-7 lead.

Cherry scored on a three-yard run early in the second period to make it a two possession game before Jaylen Samuels rushed three yards for a Wolf Pack touchdown at the 9:44 point of the quarter. Brissett completed an eight- yard touchdown pass to Tony Creecy with 2:20 left to play before the break to give the visitors a 35-7 advantage on the scoreboard. USF compiled only two total yards on its final five drives of the first half.

NC State's dominance continued into the third frame, as Thornton rushed into the end zone to conclude the Wolf Pack's second-half opening, nine-play, 75- yard drive. Matt Dayes broke away for a 34-yard touchdown run at the 8:30 point of the third quarter to extend NC State's lead to 42 points.

The Bulls finally ended the run with 5:19 left in the third quarter, as Marvin Kloss converted a 43-yard field goal try. USF's defense then helped narrow the gap with a 46-yard interception return for a touchdown by Lamar Robbins. Neither side managed to produce any more points the rest of the way.

NC State outgained the Bulls, 589-159, in total yards of offense. USF moved the chains on only 2-of-10 third-down opportunities. The Wolf Pack are now 3-0 for the first time since 2010, when they started out 4-0. NC State's total of 312 rushing yards marked the most in a single game by the school since 1994.
