NCAA Game Summary - Tulsa at Florida Atlantic

Boca Raton, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Jaquez Johnson threw for 318 yards and three touchdowns, helping the Florida Atlantic Owls rout the Tulsa Golden Hurricane, 50-21, in a non-conference matchup at FAU Stadium.

Johnson completed 15-of-20 pass attempts and also rushed for a touchdown for the Owls (1-2), who picked up their first win of the campaign. Jenson Stoshak had four catches for 155 yards and a score, one of four different receivers who found the end zone for the hosts.

Dane Evans completed 24-of-49 pass attempts, good for 269 yards and a touchdown, for the Golden Hurricane (1-2), but he was also intercepted twice and sacked four times. Joshua Atkinson was his favorite target, with 85 receiving yards on seven catches.

The Owls jumped out to a 17-point lead in the first quarter as kicker Greg Joseph converted a 21-yard field goal, followed by a William Dukes 74-yard TD reception from Johnson. Midway through the period the defense contributed as D'Joun Smith returned an interception 23 yards for a score as well.

Tulsa finally responded four-and-a-half minutes into the second quarter, with Evans finding Conner Floyd for a nine-yard touchdown pass.

With 6:16 remaining in the half Johnson combined with Alex Deleon on a 14-yard touchdown pass, extending FAU's lead to 24-7.

Less than a minute later, Evans was sacked by Robinson Eugene in the end zone and was called for intentional grounding, resulting in a safety.

Stoshak helped the Owls continue the first-half scoring surge, catching a 59-yard touchdown pass, giving the hosts a 33-7 lead at the break.

Midway through the third quarter Mandel Dixon rushed three yards for a Tulsa touchdown, but again the Owls were quick to respond.

Johnson kept the ball and ran five yards for a touchdown to cap a nine-play, 76-yard drive, while Joseph knocked through a 41-yard field goal.

Just over three minutes into the fourth quarter, Greg Hankerson completed a nine-yard touchdown pass to Derek Moise, increasing the lead to a staggering 50-14.

Tulsa, which finished with more first downs than the Owls (24-18), managed to reach the end zone one last time as Zack Langer finished off a 14-play, 73- yard drive with a three-yard TD run, but by then it was too little, too late.
