Red Sox maintaining contact with free agents Drew, Ellsbury, Napoli, Saltalamacchia

Stephen Drew, Jacoby Ellsbury, and Mike Napoli all rejected their qualifying offers from Boston on Monday, officially becoming free agents, joining Jarrod Saltalamacchia on the market in the process, but that doesn't mean any of the four are done as Red Sox:

Players that reject qualifying offers are, of course, able to sign with the very teams that made those offers.

Should Drew, Ellsbury, and Napoli sign elsewhere, the Red Sox will net first or second-round draft picks as compensation.

Ellsbury, Napoli, Drew decline Red Sox qualifying offers

Nov 11, 3:20 PM

Back to business for the World Series Champion Boston Red Sox, as Jacoby Ellsbury, Mike Napoli, and Stephen Drew have each declined the $14.1 million qualifying offers extended by the Red Sox.

Napoli made his decision after an MRI revealed a clean bill of health.

While Ellsbury and Napoli's decision was expected, Drew's may be considered more of a surprise, but all three will undoubtedly receive lucrative offers, being the best free agents available at their respective positions.
