Mercer junior outfielder Kyle Lewis was named the 2016 Golden Spikes Award winner.

Lewis, selected 11th overall by the Seattle Mariners in the 2016 MLB Draft, was selected over Clemson's Seth Beer, Louisville's Corey Ray, and Florida's Logan Shore.

"(These) are four tremendous ambassadors of amateur baseball at the collegiate level," said Paul Seiler, CEO of USA Baseball. "All four of these young men represent their universities and families with remarkable class and we are honored to celebrate their accomplishments.

"Kyle's season stood out above three other well-deserving candidates and we are delighted to present him with the Golden Spikes Award."

The award is given annually to the nation's top Div. 1 baseball player. Lewis becomes the first player ever out of Mercer to win the award. He was also named the Southern Conference Player of the Year for the second consecutive season.

This year, Lewis batted .395 with 20 home runs. He also had a 48-game on-base streak while logging a school record of 66 walks.
