It was the staredown seen around the world.

Sammy DiDonato, the 10-year-old boy who wooed America with his epic camera stare during Saturday's College World Series game, explained Tuesday on ESPN how exactly his 60 seconds of fame came to be.

"Before the game (the camera) was turning around and looking at me and I thought maybe it would turn back around (later) and it did," DiDonato told Kaylee Hartung during Game 2 of the finals between Arizona and Coastal Carolina.

When told 30 million people have viewed the video, Omaha's viral sensation quipped: "It's amazing there's that many people watching me."

DiDonato's mother, Trish, told WOWT News in Omaha that each year the family picks one team to cheer for in the tournament, and this time it happened to be Coastal Carolina. Once Sammy realized his mother bought tickets behind the Chanticleers' dugout, he decided to put years of joking around with his brothers into action.

"I just tried to start dancing a little bit because it kept looking at me," he said.

Hartung asked if his brothers were impressed at all the attention his horsing around received.

"A little bit," he said sheepishly.
