Longtime NBA head coach Mike Dunleavy Sr. has officially been named the head coach of Tulane.

Dunleavy - a 17-year coaching veteran of the NBA - last served as the coach of the Los Angeles Clippers, a post he held for seven seasons before his eventual resignation. He sported a lifetime record of 613-716 and made one appearance in the NBA Finals with the Los Angeles Lakers in 1991.

It will be the first college coaching stint for Dunleavy, who played at South Carolina from 1972-76 before entering an NBA playing career that included stops in Philadelphia, Houston, and Milwaukee.

The 62-year-old Dunleavy will take over for the deposed Ed Conroy, who headed up the Green Wave for six seasons. Conroy failed to lead Tulane into the NCAA tournament after amassing a paltry record of 92-103, and was dismissed following a dismal 12-22 showing this season.

Tulane has struggled since joining the hyper-competitive American Athletic Conference in 2014, winning 27 games against 38 losses.
