Report: Abdul-Malik Abu declares for draft, will not hire agent

North Carolina State forward Abdul-Malik Abu will declare for the NBA draft but will not hire an agent, ESPN's Jeff Goodman reports.

By not hiring an agent, Abu will retain the option to return for a junior campaign with the Wolfpack, provided that he withdraw his name by May 25.

Draftexpress projects 6-foot-9 Abu as a late first-round selection.

Abu took a significant leap in his sophomore campaign as his averages doubled across the board. The 20-year-old put up 12.9 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 1.3 assists in 28.3 minutes per game while shooting 49 percent from deep.

Fellow Wolfpack teammate Anthony Barber also has plans to enter the NBA. Should both Barber and Abu leave for the professional ranks, head coach Mark Gottfried - with his newly-inked five-year deal - would have a tough summer ahead of him.
