Jacksonville State University head coach James Green will not return to the team next season, the school announced Wednesday night.

The two sides mutually agreed that Green would step down.

"We are proud of the things we were able to accomplish in eight years at Jacksonville State," said Green, according to Mark Edwards of The Anniston Star. "I’ve made numerous friendships that I will cherish for the rest my life. I especially want to thank the other coaches in the department for helping make this place such a great place to work for the past eight years."

In eight seasons at the helm, Green amassed a record of 89-153 while making two appearances in the Ohio Valley conference tournament. He only led the team to one winning season in 2013.

"I want to thank Coach Green for his years of service and recognize the work he and all of his assistants have done in support of our student-athletes," JSU athletics director Greg Seitz said. "There is no question that our men's basketball program is in much better shape now than when Coach Green took over eight years ago."

Assistant Reggie Sharp will serve as interim bench boss as the school conducts its coaching search.
