Duquesne's TySean Powell to transfer out of program

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Duquesne's TySean Powell is leaving the program immediately, with plans to transfer once he finishes the academic spring semester, the school announced Monday.

"Ty informed me that he was leaving the team effective immediately for personal reasons," head coach Jim Ferry said in the announcement. "We wish him nothing but the best and will provide full support for him to complete his semester here successfully."

Powell was a key contributor to the Dukes in his sophomore campaign, averaging 6.3 points and 4.9 rebounds. He likely would have seen a boost in his 16 minutes per game with seniors Micah Mason and Derrick Colter in their last seasons.

"I would like to thank the Duquesne basketball program for allowing me to pursue my dram of playing college basketball," Powell said via Twitter. "At this stage in my career I feel that is is best to move on to different opportunities that fit me as a player and as the family-oriented person that I am."
