Shaq offers Ben Simmons financial advice before turning pro

It seems everyone has a take on LSU's Ben Simmons these days, but perhaps the most logical one came from a former Tiger legend himself.

Aside from being an NBA icon, Shaquille O'Neal lists rapper, actor, television personality, and reserve police officer on his resume. He's now trying his hand at financial consulting.

When asked on ESPN's "Mike & Mike" what advice he would offer Simmons about turning professional, Shaq responded with a very sound answer.

"Before you come out, know how to balance a checkbook," the former Tiger standout said. "I actually wanted to come out after my sophomore year and my mother took me shopping and said 'balance this checkbook' and I couldn't."

Simmons is widely regarded as the top pick for the 2016 NBA Draft, which will come with a large payday, but O'Neal's advice to any player deciding whether to turn professional is the same.

"If you don't have any business savvy, don't be worried about going and getting the money, because now that you got the money, how are you going to save the money?" O'Neal asked before adding, "How are you going to spend the money?"

Sound advice indeed, although whether Simmons can balance a checkbook or not, it's highly unlikely he returns to school next season.
