The case for Buddy Hield as the National Player of the Year gained another exhibit Monday, as the Oklahoma guard beat rival Texas with a last-second 3-pointer.

Buddy Hield. Took over down the stretch.

Hield finished the game with 27 points, and saved the final 21 for the second half. He scored No. 3 Oklahoma's final 12 points to drag his team to a thrilling 63-60 victory over the 24th-ranked Longhorns in Norman.

"We came here for shootaround at noon," said Texas coach Shaka Smart after the game. "There was one guy on the floor: Buddy Hield."

With 1.3 seconds remaining on the clock after Hield's shot, Texas had a chance to force overtime, but the Longhorns' long-range inbound pass was intercepted by none other than Mr. Hield.

After the final buzzer sounded on Oklahoma's 63-60 victory, a fired-up Hield celebrated with the ecstatic Sooners faithful.

Hield made the end of the game look easy, but the first 39 minutes were anything but for Oklahoma. The Sooners shot a measly 28 percent in the first half and registered their lowest point total for a half this season.

Texas took a 31-22 lead into halftime and controlled most of the game, even in the second half, before Hield's late onslaught.

The senior was helped out throughout the contest by fellow guard Isaiah Cousins, who contributed 17 points and six boards.

Isaiah Taylor led the Longhorns with 19 points, while Prince Ibeh came within one point of a double-double, finishing with nine points and 11 rebounds.

Despite the crushing loss on the road, Texas once again showed signs of a team on the rise under first-year coach Smart.

Neither team received much help from its bench, as the second units for Texas and Oklahoma chipped in seven and eight points, respectively.

The loss dropped the Longhorns to 16-8, while the Sooners improved to 20-3.
