Hampton holds off NAIA-member Washington Adventist 69-67

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) Reginald Johnson Jr. scored 30 points and Hampton needed a late 15-0 run to beat NAIA-member Washington Adventist 69-67 Tuesday night.

Hampton trailed 56-50 with nine minutes left before Johnson and Akim Mitchell combined to score 13 points during the game-changing run.

Hampton had an eight-point lead with 2:27 remaining before Lebrent Walker scored six points during an 8-2 run to pull Washington Adventist to 69-67 with 46 seconds left. But the Shock's Tyrus Fleetwood missed two shots in the closing seconds.

Lawrence Cooks recorded his first career double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds for Hampton (13-8, 8-1 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference). Mitchell finished with 12 points for the Pirates, who shot just 33 percent from the field (21 of 64) but outrebounded the Shock 52-40.

Fleetwood scored 22 points for Washington Adventist, which played its third Division I opponent this season in the first-ever meeting between the schools.
