Syracuse gains back a scholarship per year, wins still vacated

Mark Konezny-USA TODAY Sports

Syracuse experienced a small victory off the court Wednesday, as the NCAA Committee on Infractions announced the school's appeal has resulted in the reinstatement of one scholarship per year over the next four seasons.

The NCAA originally stripped the Orange of 12 scholarships over that four-year span, but that number is now reduced to eight.

It wasn't all good news though, as the committee ruled against restoring any wins they had vacated as a result of various NCAA violations, meaning the official tally of vacated wins will be 101.

That number means that coach Jim Boeheim will drop from second place on the all-time college basketball wins list to sixth with 868. The 71-year-old's individual appeal of his nine-game ACC suspension is still pending.
