Report: Dwayne Morton to resign as Seton Hall assistant coach

Dwayne Morton will step down as assistant coach of Seton Hall to return to the middle school ranks as a full-time math teacher after only one season with the Pirates, Zach Braziller of the New York Post reports, citing multiple sources.

An official announcement is expected Monday, with Morton and Seton Hall head coach Kevin Willard declining to comment Saturday.

Morton had reportedly expressed the desire to return to teaching in talks with Willard last month. It was a topic that has been revisited several times in discussions between the two, who have purportedly worked well with one another.

Post sources say Morton felt the grind of travel and constant drain of recruiting had worn on him.

"It was definitely his choice," a source said of the move, referring to Morton.

The decorated Morton arrived at Seton Hall last season along with highly prized recruit Isaiah Whitehead.

Willard acknowledged last year that he hired Morton because he felt it was in his new star's best interest, but denied it was a package deal, saying he felt Morton could help Seton Hall recruiting efforts in New York City.

Morton, 44, has had an incredibly successful tenure in the high school ranks, winning eight city championships and three state titles in 19 years as head coach.
