Report: NCAA probes ex-Syracuse commit Moustapha Diagne over school record

Former Syracuse commit Moustapha Diagne's stunning decision to forego playing with the Orange this season to enroll in a two-year college appears to have been motivated by an ongoing NCAA investigation.

The collegiate sports governing body is currently investigating Diagne's eligibility over an issue with one of the courses he transferred from his time attending school in his native Senegal, said Jason Hasson, Diagne's high school basketball coach, according to Peter Stein of the New Jersey Herald.

With an NCAA ruling still pending on the matter, Diagne opted to sign with a junior college to ensure he'd be permitted to stay in the country on his already issued student visa.

"He needed to accept a visa from a junior college (Thursday). So, that was the way we went," Hasson said, adding that word of Diagne's decision broke so late that day because the two were holding out hope until the "last minute."

Hasson refused to disclose what school Diagne had enrolled in, saying only that the power forward was "going to a very good two-year school on a full scholarship."

But Diagne's school of choice has still reportedly been identified.

The 6-foot-8, 230-pound Diagne has joined defending junior college basketball champions Northwest Florida State, according to Corry Black of JUCOReport.com.
