Arizona rallies late to set up rematch with Wisconsin

Robert Hanashiro-USA TODAY Sports

Arizona turned it on late to knock off Xavier 68-60 and set up a rematch with Wisconsin in the Elite Eight.

The Wildcats lost a 64-63 overtime heartbreaker to the Badgers during the Elite Eight last year and will have a shot at revenge Saturday, as the two squads battle it out to represent the South Region in the Final Four.

For a while it looked like the Musketeers would be the team moving on to meet Wisconsin, as Xavier led 53-49 with under seven and a half minutes to play. That's when the Wildcats went to work, though, outscoring the Musketeers 19-7 over the remainder of the game. Xavier went over seven and a half minutes late in the second half without hitting a field goal.

T.J. McConnell led the way with 17 points (including seven during the game-winning run), seven rebounds and five assists, while Kaleb Tarczewski chipped in a double-double with 12 points and 12 boards. Stanley Johnson added 12 points.

Matt Stainbrook paced the Musketeers in his final college game with a double-double of his own - 17 points and 10 rebounds. Dee Davis kicked in 12 points and four assists and Jalen Reynolds also had a dozen points off the bench.

It's the third time in the last five seasons the Wildcats have reached the Elite Eight, although they have not made the Final Four under head coach Sean Miller.

Wisconsin and Arizona will square off at 6:09 p.m. ET on TBS on Saturday.
