The Charlotte 49ers have a new head coach.

Charlotte Hornets assistant Mark Price is set to become head coach of North Carolina at Charlotte, news first reported by Rick Bonnell of the Charlotte Observer.

Price, who played in the NBA for 12 seasons, served as an assistant with the Orlando Magic, Memphis Grizzlies, Atlanta Hawks and Golden State Warriors before landing in his current position with the Hornets in 2013. Price's collegiate coaching experience is limited to a one-season stint as an assistant at Georgia Tech, his alma mater.

Price will fill the vacancy left by Alan Major, who parted ways with the school after five years. Major had accrued a 75-81 record with the 49ers.

The 49ers reportedly offered Price a five-year deal, according to ESPN's Jeff Goodman
