Top-ranked Kentucky is the fourth team since 1976 to start 30-0 after defeating Georgia 72-64 on Tuesday.

Kentucky becomes the 13th team in Division I history to win its first 30 games of a season, and joins 1978-79 Indiana State, 1990-91 UNLV, and 2013-14 Wichita State as the only teams to start 30-0 since Indiana went 32-0 in 1975-76.

Georgia held a lead in the second half, but the Wildcats didn't falter, powering through for the victory with big man Karl-Anthony Towns putting the team's scoring load on his shoulders down the stretch.

Towns led all scorers with 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting, filling out his stat line with seven rebounds, an assist, a steal and a block. Guard Aaron Harrison had 16 points to go along with three rebounds and a steal.

Georgia forward Nemanja Djurisic powered the Bulldogs' offense, scoring 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting and adding six rebounds. As a team, Georgia shot 47.3 percent from the field, while limiting Kentucky to a 39.7 percent clip.

With the loss, the Bulldogs are now 0-16 all-time against top-ranked opponents.

Kentucky is the fourth SEC team to win 30 consecutive games. The SEC record is 32 in a row, a feat accomplished by the 1954-55 edition of the Wildcats.

Kentucky's final regular season game comes on Saturday when the Wildcats host Florida.
