Maryland forward Evan Smotrycz will be out four-to-six weeks with a left foot fracture, the team announced Sunday.

Smotrycz sustained the injury to the fifth metatarsal in his left foot in practice on Friday.

"We are really disappointed for Evan, head coach Mark Turgeon said in a statement, via CBS Sports.

"But knowing his high character and tireless work ethic, we have full confidence he will return and finish strong in his senior season. We have confidence that our front court players will step up in Evan's absence.”

Smotrycz, who transferred from Michigan in 2012, averaged 11.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.7 assists for Maryland last season, knocking down over 36 percent of his 4.7 three-point attempts per game.
