Oregon freshman JaQuan Lyle removed from roster, promises 'I'm good'

In an interesting bookkeeping matter, the Oregon Ducks no longer list freshman JaQuan Lyle on their roster for the coming season.

Lyle de-committed from Louisville around this time last year and decided in the spring that he would join the Ducks for the 2014-15 season. Questions had been raised as to whether he would be cleared to play by the NCAA, as he reportedly needed to retake a class to qualify. That task has been accomplished, so the reason for his removal from the roster is less clear.

The Ducks are awaiting approval from the NCAA Clearinghouse, according to a report from The Oregonian. The school's sports information officer would not give a reason for the removal, citing the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act as a reason.

Something in the admissions process is said to be "the hangup," and it remains unclear when the matter may be resolved.

Should Lyle be added back to the roster, the 6-foot-5 wing would provide a much-needed scoring boost on a team that's been rendered thin by several player dismissals. He was a fringe five-star recruit when he originally went through the process and would represent a major loss to Oregon if he's deemed ineligible.

Earlier this offseason, Oregon also turned away Ray Kasongo after he was denied admission, forcing the Canadian to go the junior college route for 2014.
