Report: UCLA loses second recruit within a week

Kirby Lee / USA Today Sports

Former Colorado State point guard Jon Octeus's attempt to transfer to UCLA failed after the school denied him admission, according to a report from the Coloradoan.

Octeus averaged 13.4 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists as a freshman last season, and was expected to challenge incumbent Bruins point guard Bryce Alford for a spot in the starting lineup.

This is the second recruit lost by UCLA in a span of one week. Last Friday, ESPN reported that incoming freshman Jonah Bolden was denied eligibility for the upcoming season. It was widely believed that Bolden would also play a major role for the Bruins this year.

The news, however, is even worse for Octeus, who finds himself in a bind. UCLA operates on the quarter system, meaning classes start Sept. 29., whereas most schools are already a few weeks into their respective fall semesters.
